Peace Mala Endorsement

I begin in the name of God, the Most Gracious and the Most Merciful.

Dear Pam,
We are so pleased that the Peace Mala is a home-grown project of Wales. This is a great country with a long tradition of tolerance and welcoming people who are different. I hope more people can see the kind of forward thinking initiatives that this small nation can produce.

Singapore, the country where I was born and grew up, is in fact a very good example of a tolerant and multi-ethnic and multi-faith society and it is this environment along with my faith that has shaped my personality as well as my outlook on life and attitude towards other people. In Wales I have found a mirror of that society.

We at RAHMA believe in, and are committed to, a just and tolerant multi-cultural and multi-faith Britain and therefore fully endorse the fantastic work of the Peace Mala. We are an independent, non profit-making, campaign and advocacy organisation based here in Wales. We foster links and work in partnership with different organisations both Muslim and non-Muslim, to campaign for justice for all regardless of their racial or religious background. We will support all organisations that oppose racism, xenophobia and anti-Semitism and work towards the eradication of these prejudiced states of mind from society, but every minority group in society needs its dedicated advocates and therefore our primary focus in RAHMA is to protect the Muslim community by being a strong voice against Islamophobia

RAHMA particularly welcome the fact that Peace Mala has focused such efforts on young people who represent our future. Young people have so much to offer society given the right respect and encouragement they deserve. Young people's minds are generally more open and prejudices have not had chance to become established as is sadly the case with some amongst the older generations. Efforts to bring people of different faiths and cultures together, particularly young people, are even more vital given the current climate in the world.

Wishing Peace Mala long and continuing success!

I end with a verse of the Holy Qu'ran:

O Mankind! We created you from a single pair of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes that you may know one another (not that you may despise one another). Verily the most honoured of you in the Sight of God (Allah) is the one who is the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well-acquainted with all things.

(Translated meaning of the Holy Qur'an Chapter 49 Verse 13)
